Sugar ready for bed
Sugar is so funny. Not only did she rush out the door this morning when I tried to take the kids to school, and squeeze her chubby self into the back seat of my Jetta (in the small space between two carseats), today she has spent her time running about rescuing crying children.
Yes, you would think she would have tried to sit up front with me, but she is insistent that she ride with the children. She belonged to an elderly couple, and while they didn’t have children, they had grandkids. I’m not sure how often they were around, but apparently she has an instant liking for little ones.
Tonight my husband was putting the baby (toddler, he is 14 months) to bed, and of course he was crying. The bedroom door was shut, and my daughter cracked it opened, and Sugar did not hesitate to push her way through that crack and hoist herself up onto the crib and see what this crying was about. She wanted to make sure the baby was OK. After she had checked things out, she promptly left the room.
Later, after my 6-year-old was sent to her room, and told to go to bed for having a tantrum over something, she of course started crying and wailing in her bed. Sugar barked at the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs until my husband removed the gate. Once the gate was removed, she rushed up the stairs, jumped in my daughters bed, and began licking her face. Once she stopped crying, she laid down on her bed and snuggled up next to her. This is quite the amazing dog! I do not think we could have gotten a better dog for our family!

What happened to the Sugar tales?
I want to try to tell you about my (and Your)Sugar. My husband and I lost our dog Bear
in 2005. We were blessed with him for 12 years. I was not quite ready for a new dog, but my husband kept going to the pet store. When he saw Sugar he proclaimed that Bear’s spirit entered Sugars body. I loved her immediately, but she was $2500., and I was still greiving Bear. After parading several customers to the pet store and visiting her daily, my son bought her for mothers day. We took her to my son’s pool and she would rescue us by pulling up to the steps. He would take her everywhere and show her off. She won most beautiful dog at St Frances of Assisi contest. She was always being sneaked in to the restaurant and went right to the beef area. All the families and children loved her. She was extremly dedicated to my husband throughout his illness. Protecting him all the time.
At nite I would say “COME ON SUGAR, LET me rub your tummy and she would come up for a good hour massage. She loved getting groomed, she would run in the pet store right to the tub. Everyone who ate at our restaurant knew all about Sugar. My husband and I loved
her with all our hearts. Our son stayed with us for awhile with his two boxers and they all loved each other. I will never get over my little shug. I can’t even talk about her without crying. Yes, she is special,and I hope she is well.

It is so good to hear from you! My real name is actually Judy as well. Sugar is doing well, although the past few months she isn’t as active anymore. She mostly lays around and sleeps. She is such a sweet dog, and we could not have asked for a better dog for the children. All of our friends with kids are constantly commenting on how great and gentle she is with children.
Your post explains a lot too. She is constantly crying to have her belly rubbed. She loves her belly rubbed, so much so, that when my 1.5 year old cousin is visiting and petting her, she will roll over on her back for a belly rub! She doesn’t seem to care who is doing the belly rubbing as long as someone is. She is always very calm with the little ones and lets them lay on her like a pillow. We she gets tired of them, she just gets up and leaves or will lick them in the face until they do!
She is a very picky eater, but now that I know that she was in a restaurant, I can see why. I also feel a little silly for presenting her with a plastic baby pool, when she was swimming in the real thing! She loves water so much though. When we first brought her home, I would have to warn everyone to make sure that the bathroom door was closed all of the way, or they would find themselves bathing with her!
I am very busy with finals for the next couple of weeks, but once those are finished, I will try to get some more pictures up. Perhaps, if you live near us, if it wouldn’t be too hard on both you and Sugar, we could arrange a visit.

She always has been a picky eater. I fed her dog food from TraderJoe’s. She was never big on treats. My husband took her to McDonalds every morning for coffee. They would always give her treats. We also put a lil pool out in our backyard. She would get in, cool off then come in the house and shake. We are a dog family, we spoil them rotten. She would go to the shower in the morning and look up, as if saying turn it on. She would get up on her hindlegs at the sink. Yes, she loves water. We also took her out to Lake Meade in the summer. She loved going in and out of the water. I have a video of her in the lake and the pool. My husband took her to the dog park everyday. She would find a puddle and jump in.
One nite when my husband was walking her, she took him to a bush and wouldn’t move.
When my husband (Al) looked in the bush there was a little white dog. I called my son at
work and told him about it, and his friend said he saw a notice that a white puppy was missing. we call the # and the people came for the dog. Sugar would not move til that puppy was rescued. The puppy had wandered 2 1/2 miles from home. Amazing. Sugar did play with two little stuffed puppies. She would take them outside, bring them back in, if she forgot them i would tell her to go get her babies and she would bring them to bed.
As you can tell, I miss her terribly and love her. She is a very special dog.
