Thinking about the EverQuest anniversary caused me to look back at the last 5 years I have had in EQ2. It is truly amazing, the amount of people you meet, that you would have never met before, and the friendships that are built. Many that I know laugh when I call people from a virtual world my friends, but to be honest, many of these people I have spent more time with than my real life friends.
The time has also been spent working together as a team to accomplish goals. During the times we have played together, or attempted to complete a major task, we have made many mistakes, and from those mistakes have had quite a few good laughs and memorable moments. While many friends have come and gone these past years, I remember each group fondly, and they each relate to a specific time in my life in Norrath.
I look back now to the beginning of the game, and think about my first guild in which I met Karudan and his wife Tinnaley, Kallie and Mavcloud, Aurelianas and Thumpus, Kyburz and Melyana. For the longest time we all hung together, applying to guilds as a group if our old guild disbanded. We even moved onto other games with Karudan, but always came back to Norrath. My memories with this group bring me back to Antonica… how tough that zone seemed then! Highway men were a fearsome bunch, and those witches in the woods… killer! I can also think fondly of Stormhold, and Nek forest… how how that spider guarded my spirit shard! A huge group from the guild had to charge in, get the spider to chase them, while I ran in and got my (multiple) shards. Of course they all died as I was getting my shard… Also good times in the Feerrott with Kallie and Mav.
Another group I remember and loved so well was made up of Soupy (Palatine), Roshtar, Ninny, Thefoz, and Haldir. OMG.. how many times Haldir yelled, “Adele! DO NOT grab that shiny!” This was usually as the mobs were already coming for me and we were dead. I can remember Roshtar and his silly emotes, and running around mobs, everyone avoiding them but Ninny. She would draw them everytime! We all knew each others playstyle so well, it seemed there was nothing we couldn’t take down… even if it did take us a few times. Oh, and how many times did they run me down to Naggy.. LOL. I constantly fell off those damn bridges! I love that zone! Best zone in the game!
And then everyone started leaving the game, and I moved on. The raid bug bit me. After all, I had spent a long time in Norrath, and it was the only thing left I hadn’t done. So I joined up with Valor. This has been a wonderful lot. Aside from some pregnancy tantrums, and a baby induced leave of absence, I am still hanging with them. And they do know my silliness well, and accept it. In fact, I found myself missing them quite often during my time off. I can’t even name them all, or the list would go into a very long and boring blog.
I love my house, everytime I walk into it I can see the past 5 years. All the heritage items and lore and legend. It is a history museum in itself. I wonder if it too will make it to the 10 year mark, and if I will still be playing it. I guess only time will tell! Congratulations EverQuest on a decade in gaming!
